A structured, evidence-informed restoration curriculum that treats the climb to competence as exactly that: a climb, with a guide, real trail conditions, and a view worth reaching.
Summit is a metacognitive, CBT-informed competence restoration program that integrates acceptance-based principles for values-driven behavior change. Its backbone is cognitive behavioral: evidence examination, behavioral goal-setting, skills training, behavioral experiments, and self-monitoring. Its clinical stance is metacognitive: examining how beliefs form rather than arguing about whether they are correct. And its motivational engine is the client's own life goals. Every element lives inside one consistent hiking metaphor that clients build fluency with across the program.
Materials are written at an accessible reading level with concrete language, built for adults with serious mental illness, often with co-occurring brain injury or substance use history. Simple and direct, never infantilizing.
Each session comes with a clinician guide, a client handout, and a Trail Practice activity, designed for sessions of about 45 minutes, in individual or group format, across jail-based and community settings.
CBT structure, metacognitive stance, and acceptance-based motivation working together by design, with internal checks to keep every session consistent with the model.
No jargon aimed at clients, no language that reduces people to their charges or diagnoses, and a frame where competence is a step toward the client's own life, not the system's checkbox.
